Bicycle Cake

Bicycle Cake

Here's a bicycle cake I had made for a party. I wanted a cake that reflected my love of cycling. The cake is a representation of the bike I was racing at the time.

The cake itself was made from regular sheet cakes. The frame and wheels were free hand cut with a knife after the cake cooled.

Icing was standard butter cream icing mixed with icing colors. Icing was piped on with a pastry bag and a number 825 star tip.

It was a big hit at the party as all of my friends a cyclists.

Bike Cake

Nope. It was just a cake and cut by hand to match a picture of my bike. A little time and patience and you cut it out with a knife from a sheet cake

how big?

Is this cake just the size of a sheet cake? Do you have any suggestions for creating a larger cake. I am planning on making one about three times that size.. ha, wasn't exactly sure if it was possible quite yet but, let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks!

Make this cake

This cake was pretty easy to make. All you will have to do is print out this picture, cut it out and trace it onto the top of a sheet cake.

Cut it with a serrated knife like a steak knife, and decorate it the same with some of the frosting recipes and colors from Wilton. You can get the colors in the cake supply store on the left and the recipes from the recipe area on the left. It was a basic white cake with butter cream frosting.

You'll need various tips for your icing bags and then just go to town. Just takes time.

What an awesome cake! My hubby loves cycling, and I'm looking for a bike-shaped cake to make him for father's day. Do you have the directions on how to make this cake?
