Purple Lady Bug Cake
by Brittney
Put a smile on any kids face.
My three year old announced at supper one night that she was going to have a lady bug cake for her next birthday. (which was six months away) She did not forget this and so when it came time for me to make her a cake I asked her what she wanted for a birthday cake and she said again "a purple lady bug mom, remember?" I used two round cake pans. I put frosting and jam in the middle and once I had them stacked on top of one another I used a bread knife and made the dome shape. I bought a box of pastel food coloring and made purple for the body and pink for the head and the spots. Two chocolate chips (upside down) made the eyes and I used some curly que candles for the antennas. Overall this was a pretty easy cake to make and I just used the cake pans I already had and then shaped the cake instead of buying more pans. If you want to take your cake baking skills to another level, then you should consider looking at a book and video course by Maddy Pearson.
