Sandals

Summer Sandals
This was a cake I made for my sister's birthday (well, our birthday since we are twins). I just thought it was a neat way to celebrate the summer. The cake was made with a 9x13 sheet cake that I prepared ahead of time. I traced out the shape of the sandals on some cardboard and used that form as a template to cut out the cake. The frosting was a simple butter cream colored with food coloring. To make the straps of the sandals I found some green fruit roll ups at Wal Mart. The color matched nicely. Skittles pressed into the frosting made the jewels. The daisies on the toes of the shoes are real flowers from my garden. They added a nice summer feeling. The sand was made with crumbled pretzels. They added a nice finishing touch. If you want to take your cake baking skills to another level, then you should consider looking at a book and video course by Maddy Pearson.
